Here’s a great question - does a Proform Elliptical Trainer burn more calories than jogging?
Well, really - I posed this question to a personal trainer friend, and he laughed a bit, thought about it and said “I’ll get back to you on that.”
When he finally came around, this is basically what he told me.
A calorie is a calorie - if you burn 400 calories per hour jogging or if you burn 400 calories per hour on the elliptical trainer - it’s the same thing. There is no calorie that’s worth more than any other calorie.
It’s all about the effort you put forth. Whether you jog, run on a treadmill or use an elliptical trainer, if you put out 400 calories worth of effort - you’ll burn 400 calories!
And, if you don’t go home and eat 400 calories of food - you’ll most likely lose 400 calories-worth of food, around 1/4 pound.
There really is no xercise that automatically burns more calories than another. It’s all about the effort. Sure - a half hour of stair-stepping will burn more calories than a half hour on the elliptical trainer. But, stair-steppers require much more effort than most forms of exercise - try it for 10 minutes and you’ll see what I mean!
